AMD yesterday announced it would be transitioning its Ryzen CPUs and Vega GPUs to 12nm LP technology next year. This announcement came via company’s CTO Mark Papermaster, who confirmed alongside GlobalFoundries at 12LP volume production will begin in the first quarter of next year. This second generation Ryzen and Vega products are expected to be available on the market soon after that.

AMD also revealed at its FAD event earlier this that it will be rolling out two new-gen of architectures over next three years to succeed its Zen CPU architecture and Vega Graphics architecture.
Zen 2 and Zen 3 microarchitectures designs built on 7nm and 7nm+ will be replacing 14nm Zen x86 CPU. Similarly Succeeding Vega graphics architecture will be Navi and unnamed “next-gen” graphics architecture will be based on 7nm and 7nm+.
The company will be introducing Ryzen and Vega refreshes before rolling out Zen 2 and Navi. Updates which were initially planned on 14nm+, but these products will now instead made on GlobalFoundries newly announced 12LP node. It is yet unclear, Whether AMD’s upcoming Vega 11 GPU will be based on 14nm tech or part of this 12LP refresh.
NVIDIA will also be transitioning its GeForce lineup of graphics cards to 12nm FinFET technology next year. PC gamers and enthusiasts should have a lot to look forward to next year.
