Facebook starts testing Sponsored ads in Messenger

As Facebook Messenger is being used as a communication bridge for many brands and businesses in order to communicate with their users, customers or brands.
According to the company, around about 1 billion messages are transmitted pair month on Facebook Messenger between businesses and users.
Therefore, Facebook wants to add a feature through which businesses are able to reach to more users using special offers or product ads.
In the upcoming weeks, Facebook is going to test this feature in Thailand and Australia. The ads will be located on the Messenger Home screen at the bottom of the recent conversations similar to the notification of birthday or list of active users.
Following are the rules of ads placement as described by the Messenger team:
  • They won’t show up inside a conversation but only on the home screen
  • Users can choose to hide or report specific ads
  • Only users can initiate a conversation with advertisers
The above rules are good but we do not have any clue that whether the advertisers will send you ads in conversation if you do have chat with them ever before. However, the team said after testing the feature correctly and completely in Thailand and Australia, they will be releasing it to all other countries.
