Nearly, 16 million citizens of Pakistan, who do not know the benefits and usage of the Internet before, are now using the Internet for the first time between 2012-2015.
This is a huge no as it represents 47% of overall internet users in Pakistan. And, it is proclaimed in a report published by the UN this Tuesday.
Due to a large number of internet users in Pakistan, the country enters into the top 10 internet economies using the Internet. In top 10 countries, India stays at the top, while Iran at 7, Bangladesh and Pakistan moves up to 9th place.
It may not be expected that Pakistan has a large number of internet users as compared to the past. This may be due to the introduction of 3G/4G and rapid increase in selling and buying of smartphones across the nation.
There is also an increase in the use of e-commerce and other digital applications in different businesses and also used in homes as well. Websites like Daraz, Aliexpress, and Kaymu played an important role in internet usage, as these websites are popular and are widely used in the country.
Fewer ride-hailing companies like Uber and Careem have also contributed a lot in the internet usage. According to an estimate, almost 73% of the Pakistanis have been using ride-hailing services over the internet.
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) provides an annual report named as “The Information Economy Report” which contains information about the internet economy of the world.
According to report, maximum of the people in the world are still offline, however, in some countries internet usage has been increasing rapidly.
